“Conversion is what we spend most of our time focusing on. If we can improve it in any way, that's something we're very interested in.”
— Troy Defrees-Parrott, Co-Founder & COO, GoHaus

Introduction

GoHaus sells men's athletic apparel, from training tops and shorts to joggers and accessories, directly to its customers in the US. Two cousins founded the brand, and it has grown fast over the last two years, with conversion as the team's main focus. The store runs on Shopify, with bundles and personalization the team built itself.

Challenge

GoHaus works on conversion all the time. The team changes the store weekly and runs A/B tests on its Shopify theme and on prices as a matter of routine, with the server deciding which theme each visitor sees. One developer looks after the website. Any speed-up had to show every visitor the theme variant they were assigned, and it had to leave the team free to keep changing the store.

Solution

Speed Kit runs alongside the existing Shopify store. It works out which page a visitor is likely to open next and prepares it in the background, so that page is often already complete in the browser when the customer clicks. During the A/B test on gohaus.com, half of the visitors got Speed Kit and the other half formed an unaccelerated control group, measured with Speed Kit's own real-user monitoring.

Results

Business Impact — A/B Test: During the A/B test, half of the visitors on gohaus.com got Speed Kit and the other half, the control group, did not. The Speed Kit group reached a 3.05% higher user conversion rate, placed 3.68% more orders and generated 4.34% more revenue.

Business impact at GoHaus during the A/B test: user conversion rate +3.05%, orders +3.68% and revenue +4.34% for the Speed Kit group against the control group, with 63% faster LCP on accelerated pages.

Performance Improvements — Largest Contentful Paint (LCP): On the accelerated pages, the main content reaches the customer 850 ms, or 63%, faster, with the median dropping from 1.35 s to 0.50 s. Desktop gains 71% and mobile 54%, and the first byte arrives 76% sooner. Two in three page loads now show their main content in under one second, up from fewer than one in three.

Predictive Preloading Coverage: Speed Kit prepares the next page before the customer clicks. 80% of next pages are cached before the users visit them, and 47% of preloaded pages in browsers that support prerendering are prerendered completely in the background.
