“Our shop is a single-page application, so we know exactly how much work the browser has to do before a customer sees anything. Speed Kit takes that work off the critical path: our listing and product pages now appear more than half a second sooner, and for most customers the next page is simply already there. The results from the PoC phase were convincing enough for us to take it into production — and none of it required a change to our own stack.”
— Sebastian Latocha, Product Owner Digital Customer Experience & E-Commerce, Jacques' Wein-Depot

Introduction

Jacques' Wein-Depot has stood for one thing since 1974: bringing French savoir-vivre to Germany. What began as a single depot in Düsseldorf has grown into a network of around 350 depots across the DACH region, where customers are invited to come in, taste and enjoy. Its online shop, jacques.de, extends that promise into the digital channel — with an extensive range of wines, a winemaker directory and depot pages that thousands of visitors browse every day. The shop is built as an Angular single-page application on top of headless commerce and content APIs, a modern architecture that gives the team full freedom over the experience but also puts the rendering work on the visitor's device. That is exactly where speed becomes a commercial question: on image-rich listing and product pages, every extra second of waiting is friction on the path to purchase. To make browsing feel as effortless as a visit to a depot, Jacques' Wein-Depot introduced Speed Kit — with the goal of delivering pages dramatically faster without touching the existing stack.

Challenge

A single-page application shifts rendering to the client: before a visitor sees a product image or a price, the browser has to download and execute the application bundle and fetch content from the commerce and content APIs. For Jacques' Wein-Depot, this affected precisely the pages that matter commercially — the wine listing pages and the product detail pages where customers make their decision. The team wanted a substantial improvement in load times across these surfaces without rebuilding the frontend, changing the headless architecture, or adding development effort on their side.

Solution

Speed Kit was added as a lightweight optimization layer on top of the existing shop — no architectural changes required. Because jacques.de is a single-page application, Speed Kit renders the pages in the background and serves visitors a ready-made view instead of an empty application shell, so content appears without waiting for the bundle and the API round trips. On top of that sits predictive preloading: Speed Kit anticipates which page a visitor is most likely to open next and quietly prepares it in advance. The result is a browsing experience that feels immediate — above all when moving between listing and product detail pages, the surfaces where speed drives dwell time and conversion.

Performance Improvements — Largest Contentful Paint (LCP)

During the PoC phase, Speed Kit produced substantial LCP gains — most pronounced on the listing and product detail pages, the shop's central browsing and decision surfaces.

Business Impact — PoC Phase: Conversion Rate Analysis

Over the PoC phase, a Speed Kit-accelerated group was measured directly against an unaccelerated control group across more than 286,000 users and 446,000 sessions.

  • Revenue: +4.04% (relative)
  • User conversion rate: +2.22% (relative)
  • Transactions / orders: +2.12% (relative)
  • Add-to-cart rate: +1.84% (relative)
  • Average order value: +1.89% (relative)

Every commercial metric moved in the same direction, with the group split confirmed as balanced (no sample ratio mismatch).

Conclusion

For Jacques' Wein-Depot, speed is what makes a large wine range enjoyable to browse. Speed Kit cut Largest Contentful Paint on enabled pages by 615 ms — 34% faster, with listing pages 56% and product detail pages 39% quicker — and prepares 93% of follow-up pages before the click, with 61% of visitors receiving a page that was already pre-rendered. On the commercial side, the PoC phase pointed in one consistent direction: a +2.22% relative uplift in user conversion rate and a +4.04% relative revenue uplift compared with the control group. Speed Kit is now running in production across jacques.de, so every visitor gets the faster, seamless experience.
