“Our customers do not arrive with one product in mind - they browse, compare and build a basket as they go. So anything that slows that journey down costs us orders and basket size at the same time. Speed Kit removed that friction on exactly the pages where our revenue is made, and the PoC gave us the commercial proof we needed: more customers converting, and each of them buying more. That it ran on top of our existing Magento setup without any re-platforming made the decision straightforward.”
Introduction
tectake is a European online retailer for home, garden and living products, from garden furniture and parasols to household and leisure equipment. Its business model rests on a broad, value-driven assortment that customers browse rather than search for by name: shoppers arrive on a category page, work through dozens of options, compare variants and move back and forth between overview and detail pages before they decide. That browsing behaviour is where tectake's revenue is made - and it is also where friction is most expensive. Every hesitation between two clicks costs a product view, and every lost product view costs a chance to sell. To make that browsing path effortless, tectake introduced Speed Kit on top of its existing Magento store, with no re-platforming and no changes to the shop architecture.
Challenge
tectake's growth depends on customers browsing deep into a broad assortment. With image-rich category and product pages carrying most of that traffic, any delay in page delivery quietly shortens sessions, narrows the number of products a shopper actually sees and shrinks the basket that results. tectake wanted to remove that friction and grow revenue from the traffic it already had - without re-platforming, and without adding development effort on the Magento side.
Solution
Speed Kit was added as a lightweight optimization layer that sits on top of the existing Magento store - no architectural changes, integrated without disruption. At its heart is predictive preloading: it anticipates which pages a visitor is most likely to open next and loads them in the background, so a large share of follow-up pages is served directly from cache or fully pre-rendered before the click. For a browse-driven retailer like tectake the effect is commercial rather than merely technical: the step from a category page to a product page stops being a wait and becomes instant, so shoppers keep going instead of dropping out.
Results
Business Impact — PoC Phase: During the PoC phase, a Speed Kit-accelerated group was measured directly against an unaccelerated control group of equal size.
- Online revenue: +8.93% (relative)
- User conversion rate: +5.02% (relative)
- Transactions / orders: +5.01% (relative)
- Average order value: +3.74% (relative)
- Sessions: +2.57% (relative)
- Pages viewed: +3.55% (relative)

Why faster delivery moved the business KPIs: The uplift did not come from customers deciding to spend more. It came from customers being able to see more of the assortment before they lost patience.
- Faster delivery keeps sessions alive. tectake's own real-user monitoring shows the relationship directly: sessions that load faster view more pages. In the PoC phase this showed up exactly as predicted - sessions rose by 2.57% and the number of pages viewed rose by 3.55%, so the accelerated group was browsing deeper, not just faster.
- Deeper browsing means more products considered. For a broad-assortment retailer, the number of products a shopper actually looks at is the single biggest lever on whether they buy at all. More product views per session translated directly into more of those visitors buying: +5.02% more of the same visitors placed an order.
- More products considered also means bigger baskets. A shopper who gets through twelve products instead of eight does not just become more likely to buy - they are more likely to find the second item, the matching cover, the larger set. That is why average order value moved as well, by +3.74%, entirely from the same traffic and the same prices.
- The two effects compound into revenue. Revenue is orders multiplied by order value, so the two uplifts multiply rather than add: +5.01% more orders at +3.74% higher value produces the +8.93% revenue uplift measured in the PoC phase. This is the reason the revenue effect is close to double the conversion-rate effect - and the reason speed work should be judged on revenue rather than on conversion rate alone.
Crucially, none of this required more traffic, more marketing spend or a change in pricing. The same visitors, on the same store, simply converted at a higher rate and bought more per order.
Conclusion
For tectake, page speed is not a technical metric - it is a merchandising one. Making the store faster on the category and product pages where its customers browse meant those customers got through more of the assortment before deciding, and that showed up on both halves of the revenue equation at once: +5.02% more of the same visitors converted, and each order was +3.74% larger, producing a +8.93% uplift in online revenue during the PoC phase. All of it came from traffic tectake had already paid for, on a Magento store that ran unchanged. Following the PoC, tectake rolled Speed Kit out to 100% of its German store and has since extended it to its French, Dutch and Swiss shops.
